This sculpture is made out of multiple layers of cardboard. It is a relief sculpture of my face. The hair has many layers just like my hair does. All of the overlapping layers gives it a more realistic hair like texture. The hair isn't perfectly straight, or super curly, just wavy. The different layers of my facial feature on the cardboard self portrait match the actual layers on my face. The face is built up one layer at a time. The nose and lips are higher up than the cheeks and forehead. Some of the shapes form a somewhat abstract but are still realistic. I first printed out a self portrait of my face, then traced out different features. After I traced them out on the paper, I traced them/transferred them over to the cardboard. I then used hot glue to attach the pieces together. When I was in 8th grade, we did a similar project as a class. It was one of my favorite projects we did in the class, so I was inspired to try to do it again. The function of this sculpture is mainly just to look nice/decorative. My intentions for this project was to create a somewhat realistic portrayal of myself, but also have fun with it at the same time. I think that it is somewhat difficult to accurately portray things that define me/ make me me in a simple relief self portrait. I was able to make a pretty accurate version of myself but not anything that really makes me recognizable. I would say that overall my project was a success, and am happy with how it turned out
